The New York Giants took command of the National League race and the Reds moved up into third place while the Pirates fell into seventh. Washington went into a tie with the Chicago White Sox for first place in the American League and the Yankees, Tygers and Indians tied for third place.

The St. Louis Browns won a game— their first of the season. Milton Gaston made it possible by holding the Tygers. boxscore

Frank Frisch dropped a pop fly—George Kelly muffed a throw—Jackson gummed up a roller—otherwise the Giants were perfect enough to beat the Braves. boxscore

Glenn Wright was badly spiked on the hand when Eddie Roush slid into second base and had to leave the game. Ryne took his place at short and Eddie Moore left the Pirate bench for second base. boxscore

Bob McGraw had such little trouble keeping the Phils from hitting that he gave them a run by chucking over four balls on Wilson with the bases filled. boxscore

Kiki Cuyler scored the only run the Pirates got off the Reds by walking, stealing second and getting around on two sacrifices. boxscore

Ira Flagstead had a great day in the field. He made four circus catches, started a four-man double play and cut off two runs at the plate. boxscore

Lefty Grove, Connie Mack's $100,000 southpaw, held the Red Sox to three feeble hits and won his game. boxscore

Hornsby got three singles, three putouts, three assists and an error. boxscore

The Giants drew less than a thousand customers to the Polo Grounds refrigerator. Freddy Lindstrom hit a triple and two doubles to help the Giants win. boxscore

Carl Mays held the Pirates to four hits and Max Carey, back in the game, aided the Reds win with two errors, both fumbles of fly balls. boxscore
